We spent the day at the beach yesterday. I am blessed with a wonderful friend who keeps checking up on how we are doing now that we are down to one car and is gracious enough to come and get us and bring us on an adventure.
We went to Matheson Hammock Park. One of our families favorite places to explore. Rather than try and explain it myself I will cut and paste from the Parks department of how they describe it.
Matheson Hammock Park is a lovely scenic park with an unusual feature--a man-made atoll pool, which is flushed naturally with the tidal action of nearby Biscayne Bay. Its tranquil breeze-swept beach is a haven for families who enjoy its warm, safe waters and beautiful waterside views. The park also has a full-service marina, snack bar and restaurant built into an historic coral rock building, picnic pavilions and nature trails. Matheson also contains a sailing and power boat school.
Here is a view of this amazing place from google earth......the circle you see is the Matheson Atoll pool.
I have never heard of an Atoll pool before. But what an amazing thing this is. It is great for snorkeling all sorts of fish, crabs, shrimp, and thousands of other sealife make there way into the pool. But no worries of riptides or strong currents with the kids and it is not really deep either. So the kids can truly go off and explore and Mom and Dad do not have to worry. And it was a beautiful day for the beach with a few clouds which made it the perfect temperature and a nice warm breeze shaking the palm trees one of my favorite sounds.

Wow, isn't it wonderful to have such a kind friend. It's great to be able to do almost on a daily basis what most people do on their vacations. Wish we were there ; )
