Back to School...and Cozy Cottages!

Well today was the first day back at school! We had so much fun this summer but it is time for us to get back into our studies and start a fresh new school year!

Anna has also learned how to ripstick something she has been watching the boys do for the last year, she finally felt brave enough to try it out and stayed on it with much success. Now whenever she can pry it out of her brothers fingers you will find her outside riding around on it.

Anna and I also started on a craft project that she has been wanting to do for a few weeks now. She has a craft book that had directions to build a woodland cottage. We thought it looked very much like a hobbit home and were very excited to build this!

We got as much of our supplies as we could from the recycling center and also tried to use alot of what we have around the house.
We started with the main shape using a recycled piece of picture mat for the front and some poster board for the shell. The only thing we forgot to do was make a round hobbit door!

Anna Paper Mache'd the outside with some recycled newspaper and glue to make a nice and sturdy structure.

Then Anna painted it and we glued on some flowers and leaves from the recycling center as well as some wonderful earthy moss all over it. We made a fabulous mess and you know what we love to say in our home. The bigger the mess the better the craft!!

We are having lots of fun building this hobbit hole and have many more plans for it. You certainly will not find a toy like this in the store! The next step will be to start furnishing the inside as well as some more details to the outside. We look forward to sharing more pictures as we update the cottage!

  3. Dear Heather,

How nice to see everyone doing their schoolwork~It's nice to get into a routine sometimes, isn't it? I love the Hobbit House, too! Our clothespine hobbits are still bald, waiting for me to glue hair on them and make them some clothes. :)

    Love,

  5. Please tell Anna that I just love her little house. I am afraid that if I show this to a little certain someone I will be required to help make something similar!
We haven't officially started school yet .... I hope your school year is wonderful!
